
Considering its small town character and relatively secluded location, Pagosa Springs is able to offer its residents many quality educational resources, including public schools (Pagosa Elementary, Pagosa Intermediate, Pagosa Junior High, and Pagosa High School) private schools (Our Savior Lutheran School, Summit Christian Academy, Pagosa Springs Education Center, and Archuleta County High School), as well as an active Homeschooling community.
The Town Recreation Department offers a wide range of sports activities for children of all ages, as well as offering a summer Fun at the Park program.
The CSU Extension Service runs a very active 4-H program, involving dozens of Pagosa kids in activities such as animal husbandry, homemaking skills, arts & crafts, and science exploration.
The Pagosa Pretenders Family Theater, a volunteer theater group which encourages whole families to participate together in original theater productions, and puts on one or two shows each season, with casts of sometimes over 100 kids and parents.
The Pagosa Springs Arts Council (PSAC) offers a Summer Arts Camp each summer, providing a month of arts and theater activities for interested children.

There are active Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Campfire programs, as well as numerous church-sponsored youth groups such as Powerhouse, and Sonlight Summer Camp.
For older children, the nearest four-year college, Fort Lewis College, is located in Durango, 60 miles west of Pagosa. It offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate level classes, and has a well-respected faculity. In Pagosa itself, the Archuleta County Education Center also offers college level classes in conjunction with Pueblo Community College.
Pagosa also offers a variety of preschool facilities, including a Headstart Program, and the Seeds of Learning Daycare Center.
